SUNSHINE Heights made amends from its close Round 1 loss, taking the points against a determined Parkside outfit.
The dragons flew out of the blocks and had a three goal lead at the first change, before the Magpies responded in the second quarter to reduce the margin to eight points at the main break.
However a high scoring third term, which would see both teams kick five goals, and the dragons extend their lead to 11 points ahead of an intense final quarter.
However the pace of the game changed, with neither team managing to score a goal as the Dragons held on for a tough defeat, winning their first game since 2014 by nine-points.
Brent Kelly was the most influential forward on the ground with six majors, however it was the range of scoring options in the Dragons camp that would prove most important, with Anthony Ottaviani-Giammarco, Junior Eliepa and Daniel Harraca kicking two goals apiece.
Jack Caton and Jeremy Angelowitsch were the best players for Sunshine Heights, while Alex Gauci and Benjamin Ashman were important for the Magpies, with Ashman kicking a goal.
In the other matches, Newport Power celebrated their first senior win with a huge win over Braybrook, amassing 27 goals to win by 104-points.
Sanctuary Lakes bounced back after a slow start, to defeat the Wyndham Suns by 20-points.
In Round 2’s night game, North Sunshine defeated Laverton Magpies in a strong display, as Anthony Fawcus kicked 4 goals.
This weekend, the Dragons will be looking to make it two in a row, but Laverton will be hungry and looking to rebound after a disappointing game last week.
Meanwhile, ladder-leaders Sanctuary Lakes will be hoping to continue their undefeated run, however will face a fresh Tarneit who are also undefeated, and had the bye last weekend.
Wyndham Suns will hope to kick start their season when they host the Roadrunners, although the Roadrunners will be no easy beats, not having dropped a game and sitting second on the table.
In the round’s final game, Parkside travel to Newport, but will have a tough time rebounding from last week, with the Power in great form after the big win.
Braybrook have the bye, and will look to address many of their on-field issues before they return in Round 4, ready to rumble.
