SPOTSWOOD coach Tom Langlands sent a clear message to his players when they returned to pre-season training this week, it's time to step up.
Speaking on Spotswood’s website, Langlands said the club would be going full throttle from now until Round 1.
“There’s only seven weeks until our first practice match so we are going to go hard to ensure we are prepared,” he said.
Injuries proved costly for the senior side last year, with the seniors losing to Hoppers Crossing in the Division 1 Semi-Final.
“Last year was difficult for a number of reasons,” Langlands said.
“We were hit really hard with injuries and as a result of that, our team was a week-by-week proposition with a lot of players being used.
“We are taking steps to improve our conditioning and preparation, whilst we have also been working out some new systems to ensure players are ready to play in the positions we need.”
The club has also announced Dave Caras as one of its coaches for 2016.
One of his roles, is to implement new rotational plans.
“Dave has come from the VFL system and will really help out from the boundary line,” Langlands said.
“He has worked with Werribee in the past few seasons and has also coached an Under-16 premiership with Spotswood, so his credentials and relationships are undoubted.”
Spotswood will play practice matches against Keilor, Maribyrnong Park, Altona and Redan.
