Position Vacancy for Basketball For Good Executive Officer

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) is committed to promoting basketball opportunities for people of all ages and genders. As a member of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), BFPNG supported in delivering a range of initiatives under the FIBA Basketball for Good (G4G program, including projects like Hoops for Health (H4H), Twilight Basketball, Youth Leadership, and Women’s Engagement.

In alignment with FIBAs core values, these B4G programs aim to implement high-quality initiatives that increase basketball participation and promote healthy lifestyles within communities. Emphasising safe, inclusive spaces, the programs focus on gender equality, social inclusion, and good governance.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Executive Officer will provide leadership in overseeing the strategic direction and operations of BFPNG. This role will work closely with the executive committee to advance the organisation’s mission, manage day-to-day operations, and drive efforts to develop basketball in Papua New Guinea.

Key Responsibilities:

-          Develop, implement and monitor both strategic and operational plans to further BFPNG’s mission and goals.

-          Oversee budgeting, expenditure and financial reporting, for all funding for the programs and projects managed by BFPNG.

-          Ensure adherence to regulations and governance standard while keeping the Board of Directors informed with regular updates.

-          Cultivate and maintain partnerships with government agencies (such as the PNG Sports Foundation), FIBA Oceania, the PNG Olympic committee, sponsors, and the wider basketball community.

-          Organize and manage basketball events, tournaments, talents development programs.

-          Launch initiatives to enhance basketball participation and talent development, with a focus on high-performance programs.

-          Create and execute marketing campaigns to boost basketball’s visibility and attract sponsorships and fan engagement.

-          Lead and support staff and volunteers, fostering a productive and positive environment.

-          Maintain effective communication both internally and externally via social media, press releases, and other channels.

-          Identify and address potential legal, financial operational and reputational risks.

-          Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on the organisation’s activities, financial health and achievements.

-          Provide on-going administrative support to the operations staff of BFPNG

-          Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies within Papua New Guinea’s sports landscape.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate leadership experience in a senior role within sports, non-profit or a private organization
  • In-depth understanding of basketball and sport administration will be preferable
  • Proficiency in MS Office and willingness to learn other relevant software.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, developing strategies, and leading teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in small teams
  • Problem-solving mindset with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of basketball, Pacific Island cultures, and experience working with diverse age groups is an advantage.
  • Good understanding of PNG culture
  • Familiarity with gender, child protection, and inclusion initiatives
