BFPNG to host the FIBA U17 Oceania Championships

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) will host the 2023 FIBA Oceania U17 Championship from October 2 to 7, 2023.

The championship was last held in New Caledonia in 2019. The 2021 matches were postponed until 2021 due to travel restrictions in the region.

This will be the first major FIBA event held in Papua New Guinea since the global pandemic.

The event will feature Australia Guam Samoa New Zealand and PNG as hosts participating in the inaugural tournament.

This year’s tournament will be the first step in qualifying for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup with the top two teams qualifying for the 2024 FIBA U18 Asia Championship.
