Under 18 Semi-Final Match-Ups Confirmed
Teams have reached the business end of the BFPNG Under 18 National Championship Tournament, with Saturday’s semi-final matchups now confirmed.
The women’s semi-final matchups will see first overall POMWBL #1 take on fourth overall Mt Hagen in the first semi-final at 9am. The women’s second semi-final at 10:30am, puts the second placed National Capital District against third overall Kerema.
The winners of the women’s semi-finals will progress to the National Championship game at 6pm.
Following their undefeated Pool-A run on the men’s side, PMBL #1 will lock horns with Kupiano in their semi-final at 12noon. Kupiano finished second in Pool-B with three wins and just the one loss. In the men’s second semi-final, the tournament’s other undefeated side, National Capital District will face-off with Daru at 1:30pm.
The men’s semi-final winners will advance to the National Championship game at 7:30pm.
BFPNG Executive Officer and Tournament Director Joel Khalu said the games to date had been highly entertaining.
“As the matches have progressed we’ve seen the intensity levels go up,” Mr. Khalu said.
“It all comes down to tomorrows must-win matches and with everything on the line, we’re expecting to see some impressive performances and some big crowd numbers in attendance at TAIC.”
At the conclusion of the men’s National Championship game, BFPNG will be conducting presentations for the tournament, along with naming its Papua New Guinea Under 18 National Representative teams that will compete in the Oceania Championships in Fiji this December.
