Federation Heading to Alotau For Basketball Clinics

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea will continue its focus on grassroots development, by delivering basketball clinics in Alotau on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19.

BFPNG representatives Joel Khalu & Karo Lelai, along with former Papua New Guinea men’s national team player Richard Arava, will join Alotau Basketball Association volunteers in overseeing the clinics. In addition to the on-court activities, the PNG Olympic Committee will also run its Sustainable Coastlines and Olympic Values programs.

Officials will also have the opportunity to improve and refine their skills too, with BFPNG conducting a referee refresher course.

BFPNG Secretary Karo Lelai said the clinics presented another great opportunity to help grow the game.

“One of the Federation’s strategic goals is to promote the sport in regional communities,” Mrs Lelai said.

“This visit to the Alotau Basketball Association is just another way for BFPNG to continue our development of basketball at the grassroots level. We are excited about the trip and are expecting a fantastic turnout."

“BFPNG are very thankful to the U.S Embassy Department of State and our other sponsors who have helped make this event become a reality,” Mrs. Lelai added.

Alotau clinic registrations are now open for children aged 8 to 15 years old. To confirm a position, please contact Alotau Basketball Association Vice-President Jack Osembo on 7311 4100.
