Kabalikat humbles Surangel and Sons in FBL Masters

When it rains, it pours.
Cellar dweller team Kabalikat showed determination as they barged their way into the winning column after beating Surangel and Sons, 64-60, Sunday in the 2014 Filipino Master League basketball tournament at the Palau National gym.

Kabalikat started in a good rhythm after taking a 10-7 lead in the opening frame, then their shooting went sour as they fell behind Surangel and Sons in the second canto via 21-27.

Surangel and Sons kept the pressure as they managed to hold to the lead in the third with a 39-36 advantage. From there it was a seesaw battle for both teams as there were a couple of lead changes, with Kabalikat taking the final frame as they outscored Surangel and Sons with a 28-21 output to ensure their first win of the season.

Jun Sauro led the scoring chores for Kabalikat with 25 points while teammate Rogelio Bagalay chipped in 21 baskets as they lift their heads up high as they now sport a 1-6 win-loss record.

On the other hand, playing coach Rafael Paloma led Surangel and Sons with 16 while teammates Marionito Lopez and Job Pagunsan contributed 14 and 10 baskets, respectively on the losing end. Their feat ended them in the bottom of the team standings with a 0-7 card.

In other games, WCTC Red Rooster won over Mason’s Hardware, 70-66.

Games will resume on September 28 with quarterfinals featuring Gilas Originals versus Surangel and Sons in the opener at 11 a.m. followed by the MogMog Rats and Stars-team Kabalikat tussle at 12:30 p.m.

Afternoon matches will have WCTC Red Rooster taking on PPR All Stud at 2 p.m. while Melusch Dil will face Mason’s Hardware in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
