D’Originals, Melush Dil scores first blood in Filipino Master League

Contender D’Originals and Meluch Dil nailed contrasting victories, Sunday which signaled the start of the hostilities in the 2014 Filipino Master League basketball tournament at the Palau National gym.

D’Originals shook off some rust as they managed to score a come from behind victory against Rats Star, 72-57. D’Originals started slow as they logged behind in the opening frame via 18-13. Then they managed to stage a comeback with a 20-11 run in the second canto to close the first half with a 33-29 lead.

From there, D’Originals hanged on as they landed their first win with Jun Bautista leading the way with 27 points while teammate Sonny Jacinto added 17. Jojo Arevalo, on the other hand, topscored for Rats Star with 22 while Darwin Fuentebella added 11 on a losing cause.

In other games, newcomer Melusch Dil fended off Palau Pacific Resort (PPR) All Stud, 71-62.

In the side events during the opening ceremony, the best in muse went to D’Originals while the best in uniform went to Melusch Dil.

Games will resume on July 27 with Surangel versus Mason’s at 11 a.m. followed by the Kabalikat-WCTC Red Rooster tussle at 12:30 p.m. Rats Star will battle PPR All Stud at 2 p.m. while Melusch Dil will meet D’Originals in the main game at 3:30 p.m.

The league officials for the said tournament includes TFCP’s Board of Director Angel Salvador (league chairman) and will have Conrado Almanzar, Rey Fortus, Maria Paula Ngoriakl, Louie Molina, Max Asido and Fe Meseral. Serving as advisers for the league are Manny Kimpo, Boyet Arevalo and Grace Baconga.
