Surangel Kings, WCC Hammers beat foes in IP&E NBL

Teams Surangel Kings and WCC Hammers past their respective foes, Tuesday night in the ongoing elimination round of the 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

ABL champions Surangel Kings once again mastered their way as they went on to beat ABL runner up Ngermid Rivals, 93-89. The Rivals were setting the tone for the game as they took a 22-20 lead in the opening quarter.

Then the Rivals outscored the Kings in the second with a 20-16 output as they established a 42-36 lead at the first half of play.

The Kings would turn things over as they gathered themselves and bounced back in the third as they outscored the Rivals as they spurted a 28-18 run to grab the lead at 64-60. From there, the Kings used their balanced defense and offense as they cruised past the Rivals for the win.

Reid Una Rikrik took over the scoring chores for the Kings as he finished the game with 18 points while Armando Canseco and Masao Umedip chipped in identical 15 baskets, respectively.

On the other hand, steady shooter Marvic Ngchar topscored for the Rivals with 32 markers as he was helped by King Ngiraboi and Ody Yalap, who tallied 18 and 17, on the losing end.

Meanwhile, WCC Hammers scored a huge upset as they downed defending champion Peched Raw, 88-83. The Hammers were on the offense position as they grabbed the lead in the first half with a 44-36.

They met little resistance as they tallied the win with Mike Williams finishing the game with 36 points as Franky Kuchad added 21. Douglas Schmidt Jr. led the scoring roll for Peched Raw also with 36 but was not enough to fuel a comeback.

Games resume tonight with Medalaii Meda Boyz versus Ngerchemai Ranchers at 7 p.m. while Peched Raw will face Ngaraard Red Torch in the main game at 8:30 p.m.
