Williams’ buzzer beater lifts Hammers over Breakers

When it matters most WCC Hammers team captain Mike Williams came to the rescue as he nailed a buzzer beater to lift his team past the Breakers, 74-71 Thursday night in the ongoing elimination round of the 2014 IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) played at the Palau National gym.

The game was tied at 71-all and in the dying seconds of the final canto, Mike Williams took matters into his own hands as he went for the three point shot beating the buzzer and giving the win to WCC Hammers.

Williams finished the game with 13 baskets as he complimented the efforts of teammates Anthony Ngirkelau and OP Iskawa who finished the game with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

On the other hand, Mace Tarkong and Arnel Skibang led the scoring for the Breakers with 16 and 15 on the losing end.

Games resume tonight with Breakers versus Ngaraard Red Torch at 7 p.m. while Meda Boyz will face Surangel King at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday matches will have Ngermid Rivals taking on WCC Hammers at 7 p.m. Thursday night will feature Ngerchemai Ranchers against Breakers at 7 p.m. while WCC Hammers will take on Surangel Kings in the main game at 8:30 p.m.

Also officials have announced the sponsors of the participating squads. For Surangel Kings and Peched Raw (sponsor is Surangel and Sons Company); WCC Hammers (sponsor is WCC Construction Company and Billy Takamine); Ngaraard Red Torch (sponsor is Del. Gibson Kanai); Medalaii Meda Boyz, Ngerchemai Ranchers and Ngermid Rivals (sponsor is Koror State Government c/o Koror State Youth Council).
