Bulls outshine Surangel Stars in FBL

Playing as the tournament darkhorse, the Ilocandia Bulls halted the streaking Surangel Stars, 124-121 Sunday at the close of the elimination round of the Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

The Bulls dictated the tempo of the game as they took an early 23-20 lead in the first quarter of play and then outran the Stars in the second with a 36-33 output to end the first half with a 59-53 advantage.

The Bulls continued their offensive onslaught as they kept the Stars at bay with a 95-86 lead. Despite being outscored in the final canto, the Bulls were able to keep their composure as they took the win.

Marvic Ngchar sizzled for 28 points while teammate Joeger Supnet finished the game with 35 as they created a three-way tie in the team standings with the Stars and the Aloha Maid Choppers at 8-3.

Arnold Undecimo topscored for the Stars with 28 as Rex de Asis and Leo Magcalas chipped in identical 19 baskets on the losing end.

According to the league officials with the three way tie in the team standings, the quotient system will take effect. The Stars will still stay at no. 3 in the team standings followed by the Bulls and the Choppers.

In other games, Western Union won over Rams, 96-76; Hanpa Cardinals beat Liquid Skyy Dragons, 91-88; and PECI Spartans bested PNQ Crushers, 99-92 in overtime.

With the end of the eliminations, teams have been divided into two divisions. Division A will then have Western Union, FR Spoilers, Surangel Stars, Ilocandia Bulls, Aloha Maid Choppers and Royal Cargo Rangers while Division B will have Liquid Skyy Dragons, Rams, Hanpa Cardinals, Jaguar, PECI Spartans and PNQ Crushers.

The tournament will take a break on March 23 as they will have the All-Star Weekend while the play off round will be on March 30 with a seat in the Final Four in both Divisions at stake.
