Matakiu, WCC Hammers score win in IP&E ABL

Teams Matakiu and WCC Hammers improve their chances going into the play offs after beating separate rivals, Wednesday night in the ongoing IP&E Amateur Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

With their backs pressed against the wall, Matakiu managed to elude a tough Melekeok Salty Boys, 59-57. Trailing 56-57 with barely second left in the fourth quarter, Matakiu went to Ray who scored on a three point shot which gave them the win.

Ray finished the game with 10 points backing Bow’s performance who drilled in 17 markers while Stanford Blaluk topscored for Melekeok Salty Boys with also 17 baskets on the losing end.

On the other hand, WCC Hammers continue their winning run this time at the expense of team Stingers, 88-68. WCC Hammers’ play maker Michael Williams topscored with 23 as Douglas Schmidt Jr led the Stingers with 26 on the losing side.

In other games, Rivals bested Blue Shark, 77-73; Matakiu defeated Melwert, 64-61; Blue Shark drubbed Aimeliik Rainers, 85-47; Nationals 17 and Under won over Peches, 20-0; and Stingers spanked Melngoes, 103-73.
