WU, Rangers enter Final Four

Last season’s runner up Western Union and MJ Rangers moved on to the next round after beating separate foes, Sunday in the playoff round of the 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

Western Union showed might as they won over Hanpa Cardinals, 88-72. Edward Baysa showed the way for Western Union as he paced them with 19 points while Erwin Senadre chipped in 16 markers as they barged their way into the Final Four.

On the other hand, MJ Rangers earned the last seat in the Final Four after disposing the Ilocandia Bulls, 101-78.  The Rangers caught fire in the final canto as they spurted a 36-16 run to move on to the next round.

Pesky playmaker Nico Hinoza topscored for the Rangers with 28 baskets as teammate Joemar Naguit added 19 to their cause while Ryan Cacho led the scoring chores for the Bulls finishing also with 28 points on the losing end.

In other games, FR Spoilers drubbed the Jaguars, 116-70 while Surangel and Sons defeated the Choppers, 98-84.

In the Final Four, the FR Spoilers, Western Union, Surangel and Sons and MJ Rangers will play one round robin to determine the teams that will play in the best of three championship series while the consolation match will be one game only.

The single round robin for the Final Four will start on October 7 at the same venue. It will feature Western Union versus MJ Rangers at 1 p.m. while FR Spoilers will face Surangel and Sons at 2 p.m.  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
