Mercury Optimax nails 2nd win in IP&E NBL

Contender Mercury Optimax secured its second straight victory at the expense of Melengoes, 85-80 Wednesday night in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

After the scored tied at 15-all in the opening canto, Mercury Optimax spurted a 32-23 output in the second to take a 47-38 advantage at the close of the half. Then they took their biggest lead going into the final quarter as Mercury Optimax secured a 73-58 lead.

From there, they never looked back as they took the win and sport a 2-0 win-loss record in the team standings. Reid Una Rikrik topscored for Mercury Optimax with 25 points while teammate Joey added 20 as Perry Oiterong paced Melengoes with 24 as they dropped to 0-2.

In other games, Islanders bested Melengoes, 83-81; Peched Raw drubbed National 17 Under, 117-92; Mercury Optimax won over Aqua Smooth, 78-55; Meda defeated Kabong, 68-64; and 4x4 Wheelers downed Surangel Kings, 93-76.

Games will resume tonight with Kabong versus 4x4 Wheelers at 9 p.m. April 9 games will feature Kabong against Surangel Kings at 9 p.m.
