Choppers, Spoilers score win in FBL

Team Choppers and FR Spoilers nailed contrasting victories Sunday after beating respective rivals in the resumption of the 2012 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

After losing the first game, the Choppers regained composure as they bounced back to beat the Rams-Guardians, 75-55. Trailing 16-22 in the first quarter, the Choppers found their shooting touch in the second as they outscored the Rams with a 24-11 output as they established a 40-33 lead at the end of the first half.

The Choppers then continued their surge as they went all the way to score a come from behind victory with Bon-Bon Pramo leading in the scoring department with 19 points while teammate Erwin Gonzalgo added 15 as Jake Mahor paced the Rams with 19 baskets on the losing end.

With the win, the Choppers sport a 1-1 win-loss record while the Rams are 0-2 in the team standings.

On the other hand, defending champion FR Spoilers scored their second straight victory at the expense of Surangel and Sons, 109-88. Michael Bombita led the scoring chores for the Spoilers with 25 points while reigning MVP Aries Echanova added 22 as they take a commanding 2-0 tally.

Meanwhile, high flying Arnold Undecimo tallied 24 for Surangel and Sons who suffered their first loss for a 1-1 record.

In other games, MJ Rangers won over Hanpa Cardinals, 57-58 and 9-Ball defeated FR Spoilers, 74-57 in the Master’s League.

Games will resume on March 25 with Hanpa Cardinals versus Jaguars at 11 a.m. followed by the Western Union-Surangel and Sons tussle at 12:30 p.m. as FR Spoilers faces Ocean View/PCGM in the Master’s League at 2 p.m. while MJ Rangers will face the Ilocandia Bulls in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
