WU, Spoilers earn Final Four spot

Defending champion Western Union and team Spoilers earned a spot in the semifinals after besting respective foes, Sunday in the 2011 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

After struggling in the first three quarters of action, Western Union managed to pull off a come from behind victory over a tough Aloha Maid Choppers, 78-73. Taking a precarious 58-57 lead going into the fourth canto, Western Union managed to pull off a 20-16 output to score the win and move on to the next round.

Shooter Erwin Senadre and Emerson Patenia paced Western Union with identical 18 markers, respectively while PJ Esguerra rallied the Choppers finishing with 22 baskets.

On the other hand, team Spoilers met little resistance as they drubbed Surangel and Sons, 125-76. The win showed the Spoilers top gunners scoring in double digits with RB Dorado leading the way with 26 as Michael Bombita had 23, Aries Echanova chipped in 28 and Leonilo Gonzales added 15.

Melvin Parrinas topscored for Surangel and Sons with 19 while teammate Ador Hilvano tallied 16 as they bowed out of the tournament supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF).

In other games, Mam’l Divers Rangers defeated the Guardians, 76-66 and the Ilocandia Bulls halt the Slashers, 112-107.

Games will resume on November 27 with the semifinal games with the Spoilers taking on the Ilocandia Bulls in the opener at 2 p.m. while Western Union will meet Mam’l Divers Rangers in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
