Rangers, Choppers advance to quarter finals
Contenders Mam’l Divers Rangers and Aloha Maid Choppers secured a spot in the quarter finals after beating respective rivals, Sunday in the 2011 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.
Shooting guard Nico Hinoza sparked for Mam’l Divers Rangers as he finished with 21 points to beat team Guardians, 87-85. Hinoza’s performance was backed by playmaker Rodel Ramos who added 20 while veteran skipper Jimmy Domingo chipped in 10 as they finished the elimination round with a 14-6 win-loss card.
The win placed them in third spot in the team standings while Marlon del Cruz carried the load for the Guardians with 25 as they take the sixth spot with a 10-10 tally.
On the other hand, Aloha Maid Choppers barged into the quarterfinals as they bested the Jaguars, 83-70. PJ Esguerra had 23 baskets to lead the Choppers to a stint in the quarterfinals with a 9-11 record while the Jaguars closed their season with an 6-14 card despite the 22 points of Erwin Gonzalgo.
In other games, team Spoilers drubbed PNQ Rams, 101-82 while Hanpa Cardinals won over Surangel and Sons, 93-74.
Games resume on November 20 with the knock out game that will feature team Spoilers versus Surangel and Sons at 11 a.m. followed by the Western Union-Aloha Maid Choppers tussle at 12:30 p.m. as Mam’l Divers Rangers will meet the Guardians at 2 p.m. while the Slashers will battle the Ilocandia Bulls in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
Winners of the games will move on to the Final Four which is set on November 27 at the same venue.
