Surangel and Sons, Guardians beat foes

Surangel and Sons and team Guardians found their winning forms as they defeated separate foes Sunday in the ongoing 2011 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

Surangel and Sons showed their deadly form as they tormented a tough Ilocandia Bulls, 83-75. Trailing in the opening quarter, 17-24, Surangel and Sons got their offensive line check as they outscored the Bulls in the next two quarters to take a 63-59 lead going into the final canto.

From there, Surangel and Sons continued their offensive set up as they walk away with the win. Melvin Parrinas led the scoring chores for Surangel and Sons with 21 points while teammates Deloy Pingiot and Arnold Undencimo played supporting casts as they added 18 and 16 markers, respectively.

The win gave Surangel and Sons their 4th as they now sport a 4-10 win-loss record while Dennis Castro and Ryan Cacho topscored for the Bulls with identical 23 baskets, respectively as they are now at 8-7 in the team standings.

On the other hand, the Guardians improved their chances going into the final stretch of the league as they humbled the Slashers, 83-73. Marlon dela Cruz together with the aide of Gregorio Magcalas Jr. and Raymond Amarillo managed to keep the Slashers at bay.

Dela Cruz finished the game with 23 points while Magcalas Jr. and Amarillo tallied identical 18 baskets as they now are 9-6 while Bon-Bon Pramo single handedly carried the load for the Slashers with 36 markers as they are now at 10-5.

In other games, Hanpa Cardinals clawed the Jaguars, 83-80 in overtime while Mam’l Divers Rangers bested the Aloha Maid Choppers, 88-66.
