In the best final series in the Elementary Girl’sLeague for many a year, the teams expected to win did just that but had to struggle to overcome their opposition in both games.

In the Championship game between the KES Stars and the MES Lady Dolphins it was the girls from Meyuns who dictated the game in the first half. The low scoring helped the Lady Dolphins in this regard which was brought about by their very aggressive defence. The Stars defence was also solid and while the Lady Dolhins eased in the second half, it was the Stars who maintained this pressure to be able to pull away in the 3^rd quarter to lead by the biggest margin in the game of 17 points.

For the first half of the last quarter the Stars showed they thought they had the game won, but the Lady Dolphins came back in style and drew closer by every possesion. It seemed that the Stars could not score and the Lady Dolphins could not miss as the ball flew up and down the court on fast breaks by both teams. In the end the lead built up in the 3^rd quarter proved a saviour as the Stars won by 33 – 28.

SDA Queens took out the Consolation Final for third place but not before a big scare from the GBH Smuuch team. While most people thought that the Queens would have an easy time in winning the Consolation Final against the Smuuch, that certainly was not the case for the Smuuch team who came out firing in their Monday game.

With a far more aggressive defence the Smuuch took the scoring power of Queens’ players Ngeyaol Rechelluul and Vaidil Uherbelau out of the game during the first three quarters. Natasha Oiterong had a big game for the Smuuch, scoring 12 points in the first half to have her team lead the Queens by 16-13 at half time.

But then the coaching staff of the Queens team must have found the secret weapon during the last break as the Queens got into top gear in the 4^th quarter to dominate on the score sheet to win the game by 38 – 24.
