KSHL SUPER LEAGUE A HUGE SUCCESS

In the first game TEAM 3 were always behind on the score board but never gave up. One of their main scorers in Shawn Augustine was unable to play due to a family commitment and with their other main scorer in Sharton Ngiraklei held to just 8 points (avg 13.29ppg), TEAM 3 was in trouble. For their opponents TEAM 1, Medermel Yaoch lived up to his normal 18.43ppg with a game high score of 21 points.

The second game between TEAM 2 and TEAM 4 was a far closer game and thrilled the spectators right to the end. Although with just a 1 point lead at the half (27-26) TEAM 4 looked to be the stronger, however TEAM 2 came back in the 3rd quarter with a vengeance to outscore TEAM 4 by 19 points to 12. This 6 point lead and the momentum looked like bring the game home for TEAM 2 but on the back of a big last quarter by RB Dorado, Kib Gabriel, Tanaka Iyar and Cody Ngiraimau TEAM 4 outscored their opponents in this quarter by 23-13 to win the game.

In the consolation game for third place, TEAM 3 met up with TEAM 2 in another close game. While TEAM 3 had the upper hand in the first half by outscoring their opponents by 25-21, it was TEAM 2 that came home the stronger winning the second half by 27-16. TEAM 2’s Jalen Tewid had another big game scoring 11 points and was well assisted by Gerrel Solang with 10. For TEAM 3 hard working Tyler Otei scored 11 and Sharton Ngiraklei got 9.

The final looked like being a great game and it did not let the fans down at all. With TEAM 1 missing Jackson Kadiasang (19.14ppg) it was Jorvan Takawo and Medermel Yaoch to carry the bulk of the scoring and they did not disappoint scoring 20 and 17 points respectively. TEAM 1 won the first quarter by 4 points and TEAM 4 won the second by 6. With TEAM 4 making a determined effort in the third quarter to blow the game apart and leading by 61-46, it looked all over but someone forgot to tell TEAM 1 that and they fought back to win the last quarter but eventually lost the game by 79-68. For the winners, TEAM 4, RB Dorado had a game high 25 points.

KSHL Tournament Director, Ivan Blesam of Koror State Youth Division was delighted at the display by all teams and in closing the Super League congratulated all players and coaches on a job well done. He commented that the standard of play was as high as senior games in many instances and that the future looked good with these young players to reach senior ranks in a few years time.
