MICRO GAMES DAY 5

The RMI and CNMI men’s game was close throughout the first half with firstly one team gaining the lead and then the other.  At the long break CNMI was  up by 3 points.  A big 3rd quarter by RMI saw them have an eight point lead into

the fourth.  A strong combined effort by RMI gave them a 87-68 win

The RMI women’s team was hopeful of a good performance after seeing their men’s team down CNMI, but a disasterous 3rd quarter had them  down by 19

points at half time.  Even their strong finish in the last quarter was not enough and CNMI ran out winners by 20 points (79-59).

The Chuuk and Pohnpei men’s game was always going to be close based on their previous performances and they didn’t disappoint the crowd with some entertaining basketball.  Going into the final quarter with just a 5 point lead, it was Team Pohnpei that came home the stronger to outscore Chuuk by 26-14 in the final quarter to win 85-68.

Guam women seemed to come out determined to make a statement against the undermanned and poorly skilled Chuuk girls and by half time had racked up a 46 – 2 score.  But it didn’t stop there as they added a further 43 points to Chuuk’s 6 in the second half.  To their credit the Chuuk girls did not give up at any point.

And so to the final game of the day that saw Palau men matched up against second placed, and so far undefeated, Kosrae.  Palau started with good defensive pressure that had them in front at the first break by 27-19.  Palau continued their good defence through the next 2 quarters to have a 20 point lead going into the final period.  Eventually Team Palau recorded their first win of the tournament by 79-62.  The disaster news for Palau was an ankle injury to their leading scorer in Raymond Watson.

With only one women’s game today, RMI and Chuuk women face off at 1.00pm to find a team to fill fourth place in the women’s division semi-finals, at 3.00pm RMI and Chuuk men meet, Kosrae and Guan should play a close fought encounter at 5.00pm and Palau will test their improve performance against Pohnpei at 7.00pm.
