BASKETBALL PALAU NATIONAL SQUADS MEETING

The players were taken through a presentation by the National Director of Coaching (NDC) that outlined the many areas of the program.  The NDC stressed that the first 7 months of the 2009-2010 program for players was about development to bring the standard of players to a higher level for future national teams.

Each player received a CD with all the player information on it and also a Player Folder, which will be their “bible” for the various components of the program.  Much of the recording of performance will be in this folder, along with all session schedules, strength program and fitness program.

The NDC outlined how the players would be evaluated through the whole program, both subjectively  and objectively, and how these evaluations would determine their future selections in national teams.

The program for the Men’s and Women’s Squads is identical in the work to be completed and has been periodized for the whole year.  The players start with their strength program immediately and then commence their fitness program in late January.  On-court practice starts in February.  Every month the players will complete a fitness test and be monitored for any necessary changes.

Currently the National Squads are being finalized with more players to be added, including the off island based players and a full list of squad members will be available shortly

In early May next year the squads will be reduced to 16 players who will then be prepared for the Micronesian Games and the final team will only be selected from this final 16.

At the conclusion of the meeting PBF President Frank Kyota spoke to the players about the importance of the NDP to the future of basketball standards in Palau and urged everyone to follow the program, even though much of it was new to Palau basketball players.
