The Filipino Community Tips-Off the 2015 Basketball Season

The Filipino basketball league kicked off it's 2015 season with seven basketball games that were all held at the Tafuna high school gym. The league started off with a small parade in the gym with the Junior division teams all the way up to the Senior division, including a 40+ division. The national anthem of USA, American Samoa & the Philipines were honored before the games. The MC then announced the schedule teams to be played. The entire Filipino community came out in huge support for the league as the gym was filled to the max and food vendors were cooking delicious filipino delights.

The day was full of intense games that also saw the junior division playing an amazing game with the young athlete as young as 6 years old. The 40+ group didn't disappoint as well, as Rodel Tarray from the LBJ Scrubs showed signs of his youthful days as he led his team to winning against the opposing team.

With the final games at hand saw the Knights versus the Brothers which was a good back and forth match. The game to an end with the Knights taking a win over the Brothers by a score 42 - 39.

Taufa'asau was on hand to over-look the games with the officials that is head by Paul Pua'auli. Alongside the officials were Tavita Siale, Larry Ledger & Allen Fuimaono. Table officials on the scorebook was Isabelle Viena & clock was Cecilia Taufa'asau.

Games were suspended last week due to the Holy Week and will resume this Sunday April 12th. The President was pleased with the turnout of supporters and feedback for the officials. He promises to keep the officials consistent and keep the flow of the game moving. He looks towards to building a long last relationship with the Filipino community through basketball and invites anyone to come and join the fellowshipping at Tafun high school and including the ongoing Flag Day basketball league.
