ANOTHER RELAY GOLD !
Proving that at Micronesia level we can compete with the best in many events, the sprinters showed the benefit of their training to finish their 4 x 100 race as winners in 44.82. The team was: Kiakia, Buraieta, George, and Tanroo. This performance capped another day of success for Kiribati athletes.
Another 1-2 in the jumps, this time in the MTJ, brought another gold for David in 13.17m. into a headwind, followed by Buraieta 1 cm. behind.
In the Heats of the M200m., all three sprinters reached their Final, Kiakia being the fastest in 23.58 (pb), with George next (23.73 pb), and Tanroo slowest in 23.81. This set up a possible 1-2-3 sweep on Day 3 !
RAOBU BEST AGAIN !
In the MDiscus, Raobu out-threw the rest with 38.81m., below his recent best but good enough. Slightly disturbing, as with his rotational Shot victory, he fouled three times out of his six attempts. He will need more consistency in Cook Islands next month. Nevertheless, he should be happy to have coped with the cold weather and swirling wind.
KAITY - A SILVER in spite of her cough !
In the WTJ, Kaitinano jumped 9.10m. to take silver, and ran her Heat of the W200m. in 29.93 for a season's best. This did not qualify her for the Final on Day 3, making life then just a little less rushed as she shuttled between WLJ and WJavelin, which fortunately were taking place near each other !
ANOTHER LESSON for KIAKIA !
Kiakia ran in a Heat of the M800m. but learned that some "tactics" are not allowed by the IAAF Rules ! So he was disqualified.
