His latest contribution to the "Ignition" club.
Last Saturday, February 19 2022, again held at QSAC, Brisbane, but on a calmer day, Lataisi continued to represent his club "Ignition" in the graded sprints. These try to have athletes racing against other sprinters of similar ability. The match was another in the Queensland Shield Series, this time the Gary Brown Shield.
In the M100m. Heat 4 (of 15) he finished 5th. of the 6 runners in 11.74 against a headwind of -0.1. Then in the M200m., in Heat 4 (of 12 !) he finished 7th. of the eight runners in an improved time of 23.22, this time with a following wind of +1.6.
Among his other news, he was doing (on his recent video) short approach Long Jump, not as a sideline for competition, but as part of the plyometric training for his sprints. Neverless, technique-wise it looked impressive ! Currently he has picked up "a little niggle". He is definitely NOT going to the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade next month. There are other major Championships in June, July and August in which he could be nominated: the recent opening of the borders of Australia and Kiribati may enable him and other I-Kiribati sports-people to travel internationally; but that cannot be guaranteed. We live (and pray) in hope !
NEW UPDATE (04/03/2012.)In the past week, there has been a visit to "Oceania House" near Brisbane by the KNOC President, Nick McDermott. (See image of him with Lataisi and his coach Leanne Hines-Smith.) They had a Zoom Meeting with Rusila (Lataisi's Mum and Interim KAA Secretary) and other members of that Interim KAA Executive: the purpose was to plan Lataisi's Training and Competition schedule for 2022. As he was currently recovering from that "little niggle" it has yet to be seen if he participates in the Queensland Championships this weekend, for which he has been entered ?
