SERIOUS ILLNESS.
We have now heard that, while waiting in Fiji to obtain her Chinese visa, our female sprinter (and first Olympian) Ms. Kaitinano Mwemweata was hospitalised again after a diagnosis of having contracted a serious illness which will require her to remain in Fiji until given clearance by the medical authorities. She is now said to be "in a ward in Tamavua awaiting her full recovery."
One can barely imagine her disappointment at missing a historic second Olympics, quite apart from the extreme discomfort caused by an inability to breathe freely, as she experienced earlier in Saipan !
We hope and pray that she recovers completely.
GRATEFUL TO O.N.O.C.
We understand that the staff of Oceania National Olympic Committees (O.N.O.C., based in Fiji) have made the necessary arrangements to care for Kaitinano until she can return to her family in Tarawa. For this generous treatment we are extremely grateful. We acknowledge the debt we owe them but hesitate to offer to reciprocate in the future !!!
