WITH THE WORLD'S BEST !
It must be an amazing feeling to share the Call Room chairs with the world's best athletes, let alone line up with them on the same start line ! Rabangaki Nawai had that experience this morning when he ran in Heat 3 of the M100m. in Beijing. He had one of the fastest reaction times (0.152) to show that it IS worth all that time spent in practising starting off the blocks ! He finished 8th. of the eight runners in a season's best time of 11.29. (NR and PB 11.17) Off the blocks he was actually leading the eventual winner, Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago. However, Thompson clocked 10.24 in the next lane. We will see how far Mr. Thompson gets !
Compared with the other male sprinters from the Pacific Islands, this ranked him fourth of the seven who ran in the 100m. Heats. The fastest of these was Moses Kamut of Vanuatu with 10.81.
In Heat 10, Okilani of Tuvalu set a National Record of 11.48. This will be very encouraging for them in their first Olympics.
Rabangaki's time is the second-fastest on the I-Kiribati rankings. He also holds the fastest time of 11.17 which is the current NR.
