The fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held in Ashgabat, the capital of Asian Republic Turkmenistan, from September 16th. to 27th. 2017. For the first time, Kiribati had a team there and KAA had four representatives in that team. The Indoor Athletics events were held from September 18 - 20.
KAA Results.
On Sept. 19th., in the M60m. Heat 3 (of 6), 16-year-old Willie Jacob placed 7th./7 in a PB of 7.68. In Heat 6, Tirioro Kamoriki (age 18) placed 6th./7 in a new National Record of 7.24.
On the same day, in the MLong Jump, 29-year-old "veteran" Buraieta Yeeting placed 16th./16 with a best of 5.70m. Buraieta shares the distinction of being the most-medalled KAA athlete ever having gained twelve international medals in the period 2004 - 2007.
Finally, on the final day of competition, Lataisi Mwea (age 17) placed 11th./13 in the MHigh Jump clearing 1.95m. and now shares that National Record with David Birati, albeit Lataisi was jumping indoors.
