ASTONISHING DETERMINATION !
Showing amazing courage and determination, Beijing-bound Kaitinano ran the energy-sapping 400m. Hurdles Final and placed third, in 1-21.71. This was her first attempt at the event ! And worth every drop of sweat to get our first bronze medal of these Championships.
Another show of determined running came in the under-18 M400m. This time, Kiakia Tekambwa learned from his experience of yesterday and produced a strong and even-paced run in a PB of 52.10 to take third and another bronze medal. Thus all of our three newcomers achieved PBs and two of them were medal-winners ! Also this time ranks second on the KAA Rankings !
MORE PBs for DAVID B. and RAOBU.
To add to his PBs in the HJ and LJ, today David Birati made his TJ more even and pushed his best up, in stages, to finish in 5th. place with 12.72m., an improvement of 80cm. !!
A little earlier, Raobu Tarawa had shown a greater grasp of technique in the Discus to finish also in 5th. place with 37.70m., an improvement in PB of 1.70m. This adds to his PBs in Shot and Javelin.
As we said to the athletes, no-one can ask you to do better than your best ! We hope for Raobu and David that they will remember the good times and the good lessons from this competition when they face the Commonwealth Youth in India in October !
THANKS !
Before signing off from Saipan, we must thank all those, from Saipan and elsewhere, who made it possible for our athletes to compete here. We must also thank the local I-Kiribati community in Saipan for their extended support.in terms of time, food, drink, transport, visits to homes, and presence with us at the competition. We are lucky in Kiribati that this happens to us wherever we travel in the world !
PHOTOS LATER !!
If our large readership can be patient, we will add some relevant photos to these Saipan stories on Tuesday next week !
