Background information.
On Friday, May 12 2017, KAA staged a Kids' Athletics competition at St. John Bosco Primary School at the western end of Tarawa, the capital island. The encouragement of the local Betio Town Council was shown in two ways: by the attendance of the Mayor of BTC at the Opening of this Inter-Team competition; and (b) by his intention to hold an Inter-Primary contest in the third term this year, this to include St. J B plus Dai Nippon and Temwanoku.
In his opening remarks, the Mayor gave thanks to the Australian Government for their foresight in providing funding for this project via the PSP programme grant, and to KAA for being the local facilitators. He admired this way of giving opportunities for skill acquisition and competition to more young athletes.
On the day.
More than 300 children were involved. They were divided into four Teams, i.e. Orange, Yellow, Purple and Red. The equipment was provided by KAA by whom it is held centrally. The competiton was talented and keen. The final winners were Orange Team. The event was celebrated by dancing involving all the children.
