TOGETHERNESS !
Seven o'clock on a holiday morning was a good time to start, even if a passing shower did dampen the surfaces ! The Team Captains, Mwatiota, Tanroo, and (Miss) Turiana did all the work, but coaches Tekooki and David were on hand, the one with advice and encouragement, the other with strategically-timed biscuits !
The first Meeting was held at school after the final term exam last Friday. This morning we started to plot for ten weeks away ! In fact we have to make decisions about the team by June 09. So the squad has seven weeks to compete for places and help each other forward.
A prayer at the gas station, followed by a short jog to a large, sandy, lagoon-side football field at Ambo, was followed in turn by a short bonding session (with "Te Ang" i.e. the WIND). Photos will show you.
The group then split into its relevant pieces and worked seriously for about 40 minutes. Much sweat (but no blood or tears !) later, we stopped, cooled down, stretched, and had a short de-brief (plus punishment for late-comers !) The message was mainly: "Have a purpose and a target; do not over-train; help each other; contact the absentees and encourage them to participate; don't forget your birth certificates !"
COMPETITION FOR TIME.
Next week we will have two Cultural Days, the first for local sports/games, and the second for local dance, singing, etc. All this requires practice. So we are working short days from tomorrow (today was a National Holiday for Health !), doing culture practice between 2 - 5 pm, and then trying to squeeze in some squad sessions too ! We will see if all that is feasible.
