NEWCOMERS WELCOME !
Trial 2. was staged today at the National Stadium in Bairiki. During the past week, a number of senior athletes have risen from hibernation and re-appeared for training ! These include Itinnaibo (Tim), Taburimai, Takakia, Terina, John Kaaben, and others. Without any rain for a while, the track has broken up and become very dusty. The sprinters also had to contend with a head-wind.
Making his first competitive outing since starting to learn the Hammer, Teweti agreed to use the Senior implement and, using only one turn, still managed a pb of 27.34m. He is likely to threaten the NR (30.90m.) this year. We have to persuade the NR-holder, Junior, to pick up a Hammer again ! He has started to train for Javelin.
Today we also had a group from KGV/EBS training with Taanini (inspirational holder of the M800 NR), and a group from JSS TUC 1. on their first serious outing doing some training and getting competition practice. In addition, several others took advantage of the racing to test the effectiveness of their training - partly the object of these Trial sessions each month ! These included young M-D runners Taam Mwatiera and the very determined Kuraing Kaitangare.
