CONCENTRATING THE MINDS !
Our first genuine SPG Squad meeting tonight had almost complete attendance - not bad when the letters and invitation were only circulated today ! Others called to attend (and feel involved) were the athletes heading (God and DHL willing !) to Osaka. Another feature of the meeting was the 100% attendance by the Committee ! All the Executive officers had their say, answered questions, and clarified arrangements.
EVEN TIME FOR TRAINING !
Despite the late hour and the lack of daylight, when the meeting broke up it was not to go to eat but to do some Track and Field work ! Thus the concentration of minds had an instant focus, and enthused the younger members who were listening then working with the Squad. Also somewhat inspired were the even younger athletes from the nearest Primary School (Taakenibairiki) who were training in numbers for their imminent Inter-Team competition. This too is a step forward (if not pushed to excess) and will assist them in their preparation for the Primary Inter-School at the end of September.
YOUTH DAY - a form guide.
Having been offered a very short time-slot by the LOC of International Youth Week Sports, we organised some 100m. sprints and 4 x 100m. Relays. The M100m. "A" Race produced another win for Tanroo (11.6) with "the pack" two metres down ! Lilly (bound for Osaka) won the W100m. in 14.2, un-pressed. The M4 x 100m. "B" Race was won by a Squad four (running as a "Guest" team) in a fast 46.1. This was not the first-choice Relay team, and they had a weak first change, but still Tim, Baiteke, Toom, and Tanroo managed 46.1. If we get a full Relay team to Samoa, their target will be sub-44.
