CAUTIOUSLY MIND-BLOWING !!
As long as the planes keep flying, maybe it will all work out ! Departing on August 7th., two of the Committee (Simon and Karakoa) are heading for Brisbane for our first-ever TOECS Level 1 Lecturers' Course. It will last from August 10th.- 15th. They will leave Tarawa on August 7th. and are due back here on August 17th. Strangely, they have had to choose "Jumps" or "Throws" as a speciality - when I thought that the TOECS Level 1 was comprehensive, not event-group-specific ?! (So surely the Lecturers' Course should be equally comprehensive ?)
OFF TO OSAKA.
As they arrive back, they can probably wave goodbye to the athletes and Delegate who are leaving for Cairns, then Osaka, on the same day. Tierata is required to arrive in Osaka the day before the athletes (August 20th.), and OAA have produced a plan - with a "holding camp" in Cairns - which should enable this to happen and for the athletes to arrive in Osaka the next day (August 21st.) They are due back here Sept. 6th.
IN BETWEEN ALL THAT !
While that is happening, on August 11th., Beteru (Hurdles) and Buraieta (Jumps) will leave for the OAA Grand Prix competition in Cairns (Meetings on August 14 / 16 / 19.) Aged 21 and 19 respectively, and experienced travellers, there should be no complications for them. They should be back here (via Fiji) on August 21st. (That is the day the main Kiribati Team for the South Pacific Games is due to catch the same plane back to Fiji and then to Samoa, crossing the International Date Line and arriving in Samoa also on August 21st. !!!)
THEN THE LOCAL BIG ONE !!!
For the 13 athletes representing Kiribati in Samoa, their competition does not start until Sept. 3rd. Thus, as for the main team (and three other sports), the intention is to arrive in Samoa six days before competition. Thus the athletes will leave Tarawa on August 28th., arriving in Apia the same day. They are due back in Tarawa on Sept. 13th.
LIFE GOES ON !!
We are already thinking about the Micronesian Athletics Championships (MAC) in Guam in December. Contacts have been made with the US Embassy in Majuro to process our visa applications there in transit. Before all that, we have the Primary Schools competition in September, plus Half-Marathon, 10k. Road Race, and Pentathlon in October. Those events plus monthly Trials and preparing the MAC team should keep us busy !!!
