DEHYDRATION AVOIDED ?
As with all arrangements, one has to be flexible ! An intended start at 07.00 a.m. on Day 2. would have been cool. A start at 07.50 a.m. meant more risk of dehydration ! At scheduled start time, we had only one runner. By gun time there were eight boys and three girls. Starting and finishing on the main track was a new idea (like a Marathon). Only two officials were needed on the course, which essentially covered half of the main Causeway. A check-point at the Bridge (also a turning point) and a guide to put them on the track after their return did a perfect job as "markers".
ROAD RACE RESULTS. (Approx. 5km.)
The Boys' Race was won by Ngaebi Simon (son of the Assistant Secretary) in a fast 19-48. Teetu had been close (see photo) but faded to finish second in 20-22. The fastest girl was Arititeti Tamiano in 24-05. She won from Teemari in 24-30. (Photos of the two winners.)
