TREMENDOUS WORKER.
Tony Rice, a graduate of No.1 P.E. establishment, Loughborough College (UK), and for many years a coach in Australia, has made the brave but difficult decision to resign as President of OACA with immediate effect. He has had health problems and wishes to give himself more years and less stress ! In his time, he has built a distinctive organisation in OACA which has made a significant contribution to Athletics in Oceania and has brought together many different cultures and much expertise from within the region.
FRIEND and COLLEAGUE.
Although I never taught with him, Tony and I shared the joys and beer of Loughborough in the early 1960s when we were training as P.E. teachers. Now Loughborough is a University and remains No.1 for sport ! So it was good to be re-united with him a few years ago after about forty years ! To take over the job of President of OACA is not something I take on lightly and, considering my other commitments, I will see how the year goes from now.
OACA NEWSLETTER.
One of the things which Terry West (OACA Secretary/Treasurer) and I are certain about is that the Newsletter will continue. We hope to maintain and build on its good quality and reputation. As did Tony, we will be relying heavily on coaches in the islands, as well as those in Australia and New Zealand, to maintain a flow of news, comment and advice to Terry and myself. We thank you for your support to Tony and we hope that you will write to him independently to thank him for his years of service so far !
