SURMOUNTING A PROBLEM OR TWO !
We had no working printer, so it was necessary to e-mail the Constitution, use the flash drive to print off Reports, and write our Agendas, etc. on large notices, by hand ! The venue at the National Stadium had been booked. The sun was shining ! BUT the Watchman never came, so the Meeting was held "al fresco" (i.e. outside !) And of course, being Kiribati (or the whole Pacific !), by 2.30 pm (scheduled start) there were only two of us !
IT GOT BETTER !
By 3.40 pm we were quorate and could start ! For the Secretary's Report, I used pages 23, 24 and 25 from the 2006 ARF (Report to IAAF). This encapsulated our achievements, expectations, and how we helped towards the IAAF World Plan. The Treasurer then covered a Financial Statement which showed that we had already had the Grant from IAAF for this year, so we are currently in a fairly healthy situation. A lady member of staff from the ANZ Bank of Kiribati (major sponsors of the South Pacific Games in Samoa this year) came and talked about sponsorship, fund-raising, and promotion of the Games.
WELCOME A LADY !
The Amendment to the Constitution which we considered (and eventually passed unanimously) enlarged the Committee and by implication created an "Athletes' Commission". We agreed to create a "Female Committee Member" position, thus increasing the size of the voting Committee to eight. Also we agreed that we should have, as a non-voting Observer, a representative from the new Athletes' Commission. (The format and rules for this Commission have been left to the senior athletes to consider.)
ELECTIONS.
The following were all elected unopposed (thus no voting required). Vice-President: Mr. Eneree Tataio. Secretary: Mr. David Little. Committee: Mr. Taati Bwarao. Female Committee: Ms. Kaitinano Mwemweata. Athletes' Rep. : Mr. Tekooki Teieka.
NEW COMMITTEE (until AGM 2008)
So the new Executive Committee for KAA will be:- President = Mr. Tierata Taukaban; Assistant Secretary = Mr. Simon Burennatu; Treasurer = Mr. Rianimarewe Betero; Committee Member = Mr. Karakoa Iotia; plus those named above. This should make an excellent TEAM. We hope to start the "bonding process" with a meal on Tuesday !
