BRAINSTORMING WORKSHOP !
In order to facilitate this planning, a few documents had been prepared in advance. The President (Tierata) has done a Development Plan for the year with suggested time-lines. I have produced a list of the Saturdays and main international events for the Calendar. This will assist in deciding about Executive Meetings and regular Trials, set against the background of the "MUST DOs". These include the World Youth Championships (Ostrava), the World Championships (Osaka), and the Pacific Games (Samoa). The Treasurer (Rianimarewe) did an interesting breakdown of the 2006 Balance Sheet so far, and we began to discuss an outline of expenses and income for next year. This will be a little difficult because we are uncertain of our new premises (we have to move !), and also our installation of Broadband does not seem to be of much benefit so far.
In attendance at the Workshop (held at the A.R.H. Centre in Betio) were three of the Committee (mentioned above) plus four senior athletes. The athletes were a little reticent at first but were encouraged to participate and join in the brain-storming conducted by Tierata concerning our expectations for the main events in 2007 and comments about the strengths and weaknesses of comparable events in the recent past. When they relaxed, and with the promise of a hot supper (!!), they made useful contributions. The four were Nei (Ms.) Kaitinano, Rabangaki, Beteru and Rabaite. Such a meeting is a step forward and we need this kind of contact which, hopefully, will lead to one or more of them being on the Executive Committee in the near future - or starting an "Athletes' Sub-Committee". They seemed pleased with the idea and grateful for the information provided.
