KIRIBATI in its THIRD OLYMPICS.
The Chef de Mission for Kiribati at the London Olympics is Mr. David Collins, a Vice-President of the Kiribati N.O.C. (KNOC) He arrived on July 19th. in order to complete the validation of the Accreditations of the delegation before their arrival. Most of the rest of the team arrived on July 22nd. Their Team Welcome Ceremony (TWC) with other countries was on July 23rd. So now they have moved into the Village and are taking time to complete their preparations and familiarise themselves with their surroundings.
THE DELEGATION.
Apart from the Chef, those present include the President of the KNOC, Mr. Peter Birati and the General Secretary, Mr. Rota Onorio. The Government VIP is Nei (Ms.) Teima Onorio (National Vice-President and Minister responsible for Sport) accompanied by two of her staff, a female secretary plus the Sport Officer Mr. Willy Uan who was the first General Secretary of KNOC elected in November 2002. The Guests of KNOC are Ms. Rosemary Muller (from Australia) and Mr. David Little (former member of KNOC). The Attache is Mr. David Hudd who is based in London. The Athletics participants are Ms. Kaingaue David and Mr. Nooa Takooa who will be in the preliminaries of the 100m.; their coach is Mr. Albert Brechtefeld who is also Secretary of Kiribati Athletics. The Weight-lifting group includes the lifter Mr. David Katoatau in the 94kg. category plus his coach Mr. Kokoria Iabeta (President of Kiribati Weight-lifting).
COMPETITION.
The first competitor for Kiribati will be Kaingaue in the 100m. on Friday, August 3rd. Nooa will run in the 100m. on Saturday, August 4th. David will lift on Saturday afternoon Aug.4th.
