A SWEATY DAY IN THE SUN AND DUST !
Yes - it was another equatorial day in the sun, and the traffic (seriously !), using the Athletics track as a short cut, kept on stirring the dust ! Such are the small problems with which our athletes sometimes have to contend ! Then of course there was the MP and wife who chose to stroll across the Javelin event and objected to being warned !
You will see from the results that we covered events for Primary, Junior Secondary, u-17, and Open ages. You will also see that the Primary boys were very keen to run, e.g. with 42 in the heats of their 400m. This enthusiasm made us run late, but we almost completed the planned programme, except for one Relay.
It should be pointed out that the Hurdles races were not to IAAF rules.
As we saw last year, young athletes like Kaingaue David and Nooa Takooa have continued to develop. Internationals like Raobu and George featured strongly, plus some of the "Veterans" like Kaitinano. A few returned, e.g. Bonea, Buraieta, and Naakoi. And there were some useful "finds" like Kabotaake.
Among the classy performances was that of David Birati leading a posse over 6m. in the MLJ. Also Kabotaake in the W100m. Nooa's sprint double. Raobu's double in Reverse Overhead Throw and Javelin.
We are always VERY grateful to those who show up to help as officials - and again this time ! We were also lucky with the weather.
