PENTATHLON FOR JUNIORS.
This year we offered a Pentathlon to school students in Form Four and below, essentially those at Junior Secondary School (JSS) and starting High School. Thus the events were modified to suit the likely competitors
It was unfortunate that we had to use the Senior scoring tables for them. This penalised the slower runners in the 800m. particularly. However, by using lighter Shot, we compensated for this to some extent, the boys using 4 kg. and the girls 8 lb..
PACIFIC TIME !
As often happens, at the advertised starting time there were NO COMPETITORS. Two JSS girls arrived and, having enough officials, we started their High Jump. They were limited to a total of eight attempts each. Both managed 1.25m.
At that point, seven boys came. We sent the girls to do their 100m., then Long Jump. In the meantime, the boys tackled the High Jump. The weakest still managed 1.07m. (the minimum in the table to get 5 points). The best cleared 1.50m. with his eighth jump.
Kaingaue proved her superiority in the final four events. (See Results below.)

So the Girls' winner was the athlete who set a startling new NR for 400m. during the Senior Inter-School in July, Kaingaue.
Berlin athlete Nooa came from third to win the 800m. and clinch a fast enough time to beat Toataake - the leader after three events. Meanwhile, Tereke - who had scored only minimum 5 pts. on High Jump - did enough in the other four events to pick up third prize. This was an excellent lesson for all "beginner" multi-events athletes.
THANKS.
A number of Committee members helped by officiating, including Albert, Eria, Kaeka, and Kaitinano. Other assistance came from Kairao, Karakoa, and the senior athletes George, Raobu, and Boitu. As a result, we finished on time at about midday.

This was the final hundred metres of the B 800m., after the leaders had swerved to avoid a truck which was using the track as a short-cut ! Winner Nooa is in yellow.
