Oceania Athletics are staging a program at the end of this week at the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Goroka.
The program will focus on race starting, which is quite a technical exercise. It’ll feature participants from around the region, as well as eight participants from overseas.
There will also be a women’s leadership seminar that will focus on the IAAF curriculum on what defines a leader. Topics such as gender equality and diversity will be covered, and stories from women on their real life leadership experiences will be shared.
The starters course will be delivered by Peter Sinfield, an International Technical official from Australia. These events will coincide with the PNG Air Highlands Momase Regional Championships at NSI.
Athletics PNG President Tony Green is excited to welcome Oceania Athletics to Goroka and is confident the seminars will instill confidence in the athletes ahead of the Pacific Games.
“We’re thrilled to have the expertise of Oceania Athletics and Peter Sinfield at our training venue in Goroka,” said Green.
“Peter’s expertise will ensure our race starters are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, while the women’s leadership seminar will continue to encourage Athletics PNG’s vision of equality in sport.
“It’s come at the perfect time, with the Pacific Games only six weeks away,” he said.
Local participants include: Sylvester Kitemong (Manus); Norman Tse (Rabaul); Malcolm Limbai (Wewak); Paul Komba (Simbu); Eunice Steven (Lae); Grace Kua (Jiwaka); Nabase Duaba (POM); Alfred Kapum (Bulolo); Wilson Malana (Kimbe); Frank Koibu (Madang); and Rupert Warige (Goroka).
