The Head of Team PNG Medical support group PNG Dr Kapua Kapua and Head Physiotherapist Matthew Natusch visited the National Athletic Squad last weekend at their NSI, Goroka base.
The visit was part of the PNG Olympic Committee’s programme of screening done on all sports. Dr Kapua said he was hugely impressed with the fitness levels of the athletes which were “through the roof”. He said it was clearly evident that the training programme was working very well.
His main concern was nutrition and stressed to Athletics PNG and the coaches the importance of athletes getting the right quantity and quality of food. Natusch was also able to provide advice and assistance to local physiotherapist Monsy Uvire who has been with the athletes on a full time basis since last September and has developed a good relationship with them.
Natusch thanked the Athletics Team and the Institute through Director Janet Gimots for their assistance, adding that the facilities were ideal. He said that the visit went really well and there were no major issues with the athletes.
