Christmas 2021 at QCYC was fabulous. As they say, Christmas was made for children. It was also made for adults to enjoy watching children having fun in the sun, on the water, in the water, mucking about on boats and taking part themselves with gusto. This Christmas, as with many at QCYC, we had a wonderful community of adults and children who took part in all our activities. They took advantage of an almost normal summer weather pattern and shared the duties of running the Club, caring for the Club and looking after the Club. Thanks to you all, the Club is looking wonderful.
With 60-plus boats cycling through the Club, boat movement management could have been challenging but thanks to our IT guru Peter Stow, our chief organiser Louise Woodley and our resident boat juggler Sam Davis this was a class act. Great work once again by this trio.
The Events Sub Committee created two very memorable events, the Prawn and Oyster Lunch and the inaugural Crayfish Derby. The Prawn and Oyster lunch was held in a COVID-safe way. Tables were placed outside the club in various locations, inside the dining room, in the Rec Room and in the BBQ area. This setup created a pleasing ambience giving members and their guests the ability to chat to those at the table freely and to feel completely at ease in these strange times. Many table guests were so delighted that they have pre-booked for next year in the same spot.
The Crayfish Derby was a huge hit. It was made possible by the loan from QYLC of 4 Sparrow dinghies. We are very grateful to Commodore Geoffrey Matthews for arranging this. Our Rear Commodore, Alan Farman, put on quite a show and will certainly be asked to compete again next year. His performance was hilariously funny, Mr Bean would have been proud.
Here is one of our members, Simon Murray getting off to a flying start. With games designed to hone our skills all the children took part challenging the adults and it became a real family fun day.
Wishing you all smooth sailing in 2022.
