Semi-final picture is set for the U15 and U17 Canada Basketball National Championships! 

 

The provinces have punched their tickets into the semi-finals after today's wins. No major surprises as the strongest teams continued to advance. 

 

On the U15 side, Manitoba defeated BC, 69 to 54, sending them into a game against the undefeated Ontario team that downed Nova Scotia, 87 to 46. 

 

The other semi-final will include New Brunswick and Quebec, both teams winning in convincing fashion today over Alberta and Saskatchewan, respectively. 

 

Standout performances from the U15 division include Jayden Veinot of Nova Scotia who turned in 18 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in a 62 to 40 win over Newfoundland/ Labrador. 

Davon Lawlor of PEI had a strong game for PEI with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while Niyah Becker of Manitoba turned in the performance of the day finishing with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 8 steals!

 

Tomorrow's semi-final games will pit New Brunswick against Quebec at 6:00pm local time followed by Ontario battling Manitoba at 8:15pm! 

 

On the U17 side, all the top teams from the first three days of the tournament found their way into the semi-final picture. 

 

Ontario handled Quebec, 76 to 32 while BC won a tough contest at host Alberta, 63 to 53. Manitoba and Saskatchewan both earned byes into the semi-final round awaiting the winners. 

 

Standout performances include Jessica Jones from BC with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Her teammate, Sophie De Goede, also played a strong game finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists. 

 

Alyssa Jerome from Ontario contributed 17 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists while the player of the day was Mikaela Dodig from Ontario, finishing with 21 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals while shooting a perfect 8 for 8 from the field including 5 for 5 from behind the 3 point line! 

 

Tomorrow's U17 semi-final games will see Manitoba take on BC at 6:00pm followed by Saskatchewan and Ontario going head to head at 8:15pm.
