DAY THREE ROUNDUP

Manitoba holds off Quebec while Ontario remains undefeated in pool play! 

 

Day 3 started with a bang as the U17 Manitoba girls defeated Quebec, 59 to 55. 

 

In the first game of the day, 5 Manitoba players finished in double figures holding off a strong Quebec comeback. With Manitoba up the majority of the game, Quebec stormed back behind an 18 to 6 3rd quarter. Manitoba was then able to regain control behind a 17 to 9 4th quarter to finish the game. 

 

Raizel Guinto lead Manitoba with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists while Kyanna Giles contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Bliss Mutanda put in 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists for Quebec while Juliette Gauthier added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. 

 

In other action, the U17 Saskatchewan girls defeated Alberta, 69 - 47 behind strong pressure defense and impressive long range shooting. 

 

Libby Epoch turned in what might be the most impressive all around performance of the tournament so far with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 steals while shooting 4 for 7 from the 3 point line! 

 

The U17 Ontario girls remain undefeated after a 68 to 33 win over BC. 

 

In U15 action, the standout game of the day was New Brunswick's exciting one point win over Newfoundland and Labrador, 60 to 59. Newfoundland fought back into the game behind a 20 to 4th quarter and a 48 to 26 points in the paint advantage. 

 

New Brunswick was able to hang on however behind Reese Baxendale's 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists while Bailey Black finished with 15 points and 2 rebounds. 

Newfoundland was lead by Sarah Hiscock leading the team with 23 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while Breena Power played a strong game finishing with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. 

 

Playoff games begin on Day 4 for the U17 girls with the quarter-final games featuring Quebec taking on Ontario and Alberta challenging BC.
