Sail Mordi was a 2 day regatta run over the weekend of 27/28 August held at the Mordialloc Sailing Club. Four minnow sailors competed in the regatta; Kate, Jade, Ed and Hamish. The minnow sailors were grouped in a division with two Open Bics.
The Saturday had good conditions ranging from 5 knots up to 15-20 for brief periods. Race one saw Ed cross the finish line first, with Hamish next and Jade third, only for Ed and Jade to get marked as OCS. Jade sailed superbly in race 2 to record a win, and in race 3 Hamish took the honours. So it was a really tight contest with each of the three minnow sailors having time in the front.
Race four was also close with Jade holding a 30 second lead at the final top mark from Hamish with Ed a further 30 second behind. Hamish made ground on the downwind and by the bottom mark was only a couple of boat lengths behind. On the final upwind to the finish Hamish manged to just get over Jade right on the line with only a couple of meters between them.
On Sunday Kate joined the other three minnow sailors for what turned out to be two light wind races. The light breeze seemed to suit Hamish who won race 5 and then in race six chased down a large gap to Ed to win that one as well. After the breeze dropped to nothing, racing was abandoned for the day.
So the final results saw Hamish finsh 1st minnow as well as 1st in the division, Ed finished 2nd minnow and 4th in the division, Jade 3rd minnow and 5th overall. After applying the yardstick handicaps it was very close with just 2 points covering 2nd to 5th. Full results.
