Honours for Football West Life Members

SEVERAL Football Hall of Fame WA inductees were amongst those who had their contributions to the game formally recognised by Football West at a ceremony on August 2.
Life Membership Certificates and Badges were handed out at a function before the WA State team's challenge game against the Young Socceroos, which was held at the Inglewood United ground, Perth Plasterboard Stadium.
The Certificates honoured those who had provided outstanding service to football in Western Australia.
Three Hall of Famers were included in those saluted - John O'Connell, Bob Brown and Steve Muldoon.
O'Connell, who is a founding member of the Football Hall of Fame WA Committee, was inducted into the Hall of Champions in 1996. He is the State team record caps holder with 41 appearances, seven of those as captain.
John, who was born in Liverpool, played for Swan Valley, Morley Windmills and East Fremantle Tricolore.
He has also made a huge impact on the game as a coach (at senior, junior and schoolboys level) and continues to play a major role in the football media.
Brown, another founding member of the Hall of Fame Committee, was inducted into the Hall of Recognition at the 20th anniversary celebrations in November, 2016.
Scottish-born Bob arrived in WA in 1958 and played for North Perth and Perth City before injury prematurely ended his playing career.
He became secretary-manager of Perth City and also was manager with the WA State team when they played Manchester United in 1967 and when WA became the first Australian team to compete in Asia, at the Merdeka Cup international tournament in Malaysia in 1967.
He coached youth teams and helped set up the WA coaches association. He was also an independent board member of the Soccer Federation of WA and later became a major sponsor of Junior Country Week.
Muldoon, who was inducted into the Hall of Recognition in 2016, was a prominent WA referee for many years.
He officiated in 79 games in the National Soccer League and A-League.
Steve was State League referee of the year in 2005 and assistant referee of the year in 1998 and 1999.
Now retired from officiating in the middle, he has, however, continued his involvement with the game as an A-League and State League assessor.
The most recent Life Members of Football West were also presented with Certificates and Badges - Dave Kindness, the Melville City president, and former Football West director Rob Mackay.
