Perth SC inflicted Floreat Athena’s first NPL Night Series loss in three years to leapfrog Ante Kovacevic’s side and head into the semi-finals as Pool One winners.

Both teams were already through, with Floreat needing only a draw at Dorrien Gardens to retain top spot.

But a right-foot strike from Andreas Theodosiades on 54 minutes flew past the diving Jordan Barbas to give Perth the win.

Floreat’s pursuit of a third successive Night Series title continues next Saturday with a semi-final against Gwelup Croatia at Frank Drago Reserve.

Gwelup wrapped up first place in Pool Two with a goalless draw against Sorrento.

Perth SC will find out their last-four opponents tonight, when the remainder of the Round Five fixtures are played.

In all probability it will be Perth Glory or Inglewood United who head through with Gwelup.

Glory are currently in second place, on the same points as Inglewood but four goals better off. Glory face Armadale at Dalmatinac Park, while Inglewood take on Balcatta at Frank Drago Reserve.

The other Round Five matches see Bayswater City face ECU Joondalup at Frank Drago Reserve and Cockburn and Rockingham clash at Dalmatinac Park.

Frank Drago Reserve will host the two semi-finals, on Saturday, 29 February.

The final is at Perth Plasterboard Centre Stadium, home of Inglewood United, on Saturday, 7 March. This will form part of a double-header with the final of the Women’s NPL Night Series.
