NPL Night Series: Depleted Gulls seek first win

Football West News

Shaun Kilkelly is one of four Sorrento players who will miss the game against Inglewood

Sorrento are chasing their first win of the NPL Night Series on Friday as they bid to stay in the hunt for a semi-final spot.

The Gulls have taken one point from their opening three matches and will be without Ollie Annis, Clark Keltie, Tristan Stevens and Shaun Kilkelly against Inglewood United.

LADDERS

A positive from last week’s 3-2 loss to Armadale was the introduction of youngster Daniel Faichney. The 16-year-old came off the bench to score and is set to figure again at Percy Doyle Reserve.

Inglewood are one of four teams in Pool Two on four points, along with Armadale, Perth Glory and Balcatta.

Glory and Balcatta meet immediately after the Sorrento-Inglewood match.

The final Round Four match in the pool is on Saturday at Dalmatinac Park, where victory for Gwelup Croatia over Armadale will all but guarantee a top-four place for Taki Nicolaidis’ side.

All of the Pool One matches take place on Saturday.

Floreat Athena, who boast the final 100 per cent record, will advance to the semis if they defeat Cockburn City at Dalmatinac Park.

Meanwhile, there will be plenty up for grabs at Frank Drago Reserve when third-place Bayswater City host Perth SC, a point better off in second. A win for the Azzurri will ensure they reach the knockout stage.

Following that is the clash between Rockingham City and ECU. Three straight losses means Rockingham are unable to qualify, while ECU must win to keep their chances alive.

This weekend also sees Round Three of the State League Night Series, with games at Wanneroo, Kingsway, Game Guardian Stadium and Edinburgh Oval.
